The MGA like all British cars suffered with Lucas wiring and connection problems. It is easy to knock Lucas during this period. British weather was just wet, there were never the extremes in weather between hot and cold that the Americans experienced. During the same period I could have identified many more Europeans cars that would have never stood the test of time as British cars in the American market.
The wiring on the MGA lacked weather proofing. This could easily
be rectified by applying a little silicon grease to all electrical connectors
and junction points. Also ensuring proper installation of the bullet
connectors, using soldering, to cable ends limited the effects of
weather to those points of contact.
