The MGA left the USA out of Port Newark on 3rd December 1997 and arrived at Southampton on the morning of 22nd December 1997. Now it is located at my house in Berkshire in a nice dry secure garage.
Now that the car is being used in the UK the first job is to make it roadworthy especially for night driving. Nothing like upsetting the driver coming towards you when the lights dip to the right, straight in to his eyes. To this end I have replaced the USA manufactured GEC sealed beam RHS dip (Right Hand Side) units, for UK manufactured Lucas LHS dip (Right Hand Side) pre focused units. These new units will accept Halogen H4 Lamps. Always better to know that you are about to drive in to a ditch at night, it gives you that added opportunity to avoid the ditch.
At the same time, I replaced the front side light and indicator light covers from the export plain clear units to the UK amber and clear units. Also replaced the rear indicator lamp covers from the USA red glass units to the UK amber glass units. In the UK and Europe all cars now use amber to display direction.
